That's an entertaining way of looking at it, that's for sure! Many thanks for a good laugh! 😆

Now, I just need to keep this in mind as I've hit a handful of hard limits and didn't realize that there was a viable workaround! 👍

Re: Amazon CLI denied; interesting reason

Just a data point here. I have one Synchrony card (PP credit) and it started with a pretty low limit years ago. As I improved my credit score they were handing out CLIs like tic tacs lol. Until I hit 10k and hit a hard wall. My FICO 8 scores are all well over 800 now and the wall won't budge. I don't need more than that and am low income so I have not tried to contact anyone. I just hit the CLI request button every now and then and take the rejection lol. Will be closing the account once my profile ages a bit more anyway.

Re: Amazon CLI denied; interesting reason

I am hitting the $10K wall with the Sync Amazon Store Card, but they just increased my PayPal Mastercard from $15K to $20K just the other night. I did ask for $25K, but was told that the $20K is the hard limit as per their policy. Interestingly enough, I also have PayPal Credit, and it never really grew. I was up to $3,750 and asked for $6K, but they countered with $5,650 saying that anymore is "too high in relation to my previous credit line." That makes no sense when they gave me massive CLIs on those other two accounts! I actually don't have a balance on the PayPal accounts, and tend to pay off my Amazon Card regularly. The thing is that I do put A LOT of spending on Amazon, but even now my utilization on that card is around 11% and almost never goes above 25% for even part of the month. My overall utilization was around 4%, but we're moving this month so it likely doubled to 8% as I'm taking advantage of some 0% APR Intro Offers to spread out the payments. Moving ~1,100 miles is expensive! I don't need the extra CLIs, but I like maintaining a low overall utilization and those CLIs help keep it minimal. Go figure!

Re: Amazon CLI denied; interesting reason

Can anyone tell me what can be done with PayPal Credit? I have a $2500 credit limit and have never used it because I can get 3% back with my BCE.

Re: Amazon CLI denied; interesting reason

Great question! Basically, the biggest advantage is no interest if paid-in-full within 6-months on purchases of $99 or more. PayPal Credit does grow slowly, that's for sure! The same day that my PayPal Mastercard jumped to $20K with a $5K increase; they only gave me $1,900 more on my PayPal Credit with an overall limit that's now $5,650! I'd recommend checking out the PayPal Mastercard as it grows much faster and you get 3% on all purchases made with PayPal (2% on everything else), and there's no $6K yearly cap like with the BCE! Good luck! 👍

Good question. I first got PP Credit back in 2012 when my credit report was not in great shape and I was trying to sell some stuff on ebay. I don't remember if I had heard that it was easy to get approved for or if I figured why not since I was signing up for PP anyway. I honestly don't remember if they had the 6 months at 0% for purchases of $100 or more at that point or not. I do remember that it didn't report to the credit bureaus, so that helped me out a lot in terms of utilization factors lol. I think my starting limit was around 1k but not even sure. I only had 1 other credit account when I got approved for PP credit.

Flash to 10/2019 and the account started reporting to the credit bureaus. My CL after 7 years with the account was $3,500. I don't remember the details, but I am sure I would have tried to get more than that, but it didn't grow much. The CL stayed at $3,500 until 1/2021. I believe around that time I was really enjoying the 0% interest on purchases of $100 or more for 6 months.

In 2021 the account grew from $3,500 to $10,000 between Feb and Nov. Since then nothing (I just tried again).  Now that I have a bunch of accounts and usually have at least one card offering 0% or close to it, I really don't want PP Credit any more. I don't really get anything out of it outside of a boost on aging factors.  Pretty sure I  will close it in the next year or so when my AAoA hits 7yrs 6mos. The automatic 0% for 6 months on larger purchases is probably the most useful thing about the account.

Last night I tried for a CLI on my Amazon Prime Store card (from Synchrony). I had forgotten (until I looked at my financial file today) that I had tried, and failed, two months ago. I failed this time, too. Instant denial. Today I received a link to a letter with the explanation; here's the reason it was denied:

"The requested amount exceeds the limits set by our credit policy"

Does anyone know what that limit is?

My current CL is $10,000; I'm not sure, but I think I requested $15,000 the last time and $14,000 this time. If no one knows for sure, I guess I'll just keep stepping down until I hit the magic number! But what if it's $10,000? Then there's no point bothering. I hope someone knows the answer.

It seems odd to me the way they handle it. If the amount requested exceeds their limit, why don't they counter with an amount that doesn't exceed it? Or at least tell me what the limit is?

The hard limit on this card is not $10K. There are CLs in the ~$25,000 range on this card. You could try reaching out to the Credit Solutions department next time instead of submitting it online.

I was always curious if $10k was the hight limit  or not.

Personally Im not gonna try to poke the Synhcrony bear but Im interested in what happens OP
