I did have another thought about which accounts might have been purged.  As I pointed out, there are a lot of inactive accounts from many years ago that are still in the forum archives.  However, these all had posted and participated.

 

So perhaps, besides clearing out duplicates and bots, they looked for accounts that were created, only used by forum lurkers, and then abandoned.  There were probably a lot of people who created accounts and then didn't actually post or participate much if any.  And over the course of 2007 to 2023, there could easily have been 100K accounts that fit that description.   A person who created an account in 2010, logged in periodically for a couple of months, never posted, and then lost interest and hasn't been seen since wouldn't really be considered a "member" as much as someone who added content.

Yep - a big re-instatement is underway. Count appears to be stabilizing; now at 204485 with 1099 members on-line.
