With tap the card or slide it in a slot, why ?
How would anyone looking at the signature know if it was your's or not.
They can remove that white block area on back of all cards also.
I'm willing to bet workers are supposed to check, but rarely do. I have "See ID" on mine, and only like 5 restaurant servers ever came back to check my ID.
I used to work for a car rental service, and I only checked the back when the name on the card did not match the reservation that popped up. It felt failsafe to me because the computer used the name card to bring the reservation up and I already had a license with their name. If a reservation didn't pop up, I'd check the name their card, flip it around, and check their license. I've had to tell multiple people to sign their card.
I was approved for my it Chrome in 2019. It had the hologram on the magstripe.
I product changed to the it in 2020. It does not have the hologram.

I write SEE I.D. In the signature space on all my credit/debit cards
its a habit I picked up from my dad
i they want to compare my signature on the receipt to something they can use my drivers license
No one has ever paid it any mind tho
I have a feeling you could write "stolen" in that space and nobody would notice

The requirement to sign credit cards was removed back to August 2015. Many card issuers today have been removing the signature line completly. Merchants at the newer equiped terminals never handle the cards so the signature line is irrelevant today.
