@GZG don't bad mouth citizens, they just paid me a $400 sub, lol! Bmo did too, both this month. The Us b $500, was quicker, paid in five week from opening.
@masscredit careful with that bmo relationship checking, I think it's like a $25 monthly fee. That can eat into the sub.

I went through the accounts I was approved for and noted what if anything is required to avoid monthly fees.
The banks I opened accounts at are -
Wells Fargo - $300
Citi - $300
Cap 1 - $250
Abington - $250
BMO - $400
PNC - $200
Good going!
I've done:
Fidelity, cma $100, bloom, $100
Amex $250
Capone $350
Wes banco $400
5 3rd $350
Wells Fargo $325
Us Bank $500
Bmo $400
Citizens $400
I was also denied for a few banks because they don't offer accounts to residents in my state.
There are some schemes to get around geo fencing. Some banks are regional for deposit accounts, but national for credit cards. By getting the card, you're now "in the family" and they'll approve a deposit account.
Some credit unions are local, unless you belong to some club, like the humane society, or stump jumpers anonymous, then you're good to go.

I thought I'm the only person who is a member of stump jumpers anonymous!!! I've joined a few credit unions by playing a small fee to join or a group. US Bank is one that I was declined for because they don't offer their product in my area. That surprised me.
So if I go into the PNC bank branch and inquire about the $400 performance select bonus they can sign me up for the account there with the bonus code? Do I have a better chance of getting the account opened in branch vs online?
From that list, I have had accounts from BoA, Chase, and BMO. Only BMO pulled Chex. I would freeze Chex first then do the apps, see which banks will approve you without it. The large national banks usually pull Early Warning so Chex is not always required for them.
Note that U.S. Bank will deny people based on too many Early Warning inquiries...
@masscredit wrote:Recently I got the idea to take advange of some checking account sign on offers. I researched a bunch of banks and started opening accounts. This was actually benefical because I'm going to maintain relationships with a number of them. Especially when they offers savings accounts at close to 5%. Yup, I moved some money! Anyway, I was surprised when I got denied by a number of banks. They are -
Bank Hometown
Bank of America
Citizens
Santander
Chase
M&T
BMO
