I'm in the same boat.   My heavy drivers are my 3 NFCU cards (Cash Rewards, Flagship, and Amex) and my Apple Card.   The only thing I'm missing is an airline card, which I hope to get later this year when I'm 61 months past BK.   Going to go for the Delta Amex.

While I'm an NFCU member, I don't have any of their cards, maybe someday, but I have no compelling reason to get one at this point.  That said, in my 2015 Chapter 13 I lost my only airline card, a Delta SkyMiles card, and unless AMEX is going to forget about the nearly thirty grand they got burned for, I seriously doubt I'll see "Member since 1981" in my pocket again.

From this point on, I may well burn through the remaining SkyMiles I have and then switch to United for my main airline; I'm pretty sure at this point Chase would approve me for one of United's cards.

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)

  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

I think I've read older threads on here that usually it was a number of years after the bankruptcy if AMEX was included in it before they'll approve you.

Sorry I don't have any answers about who to talk to. I spoke to the recovery team when I settled. They wouldn't make any guarantees I'd get approved just said I would no longer be automatically denied.

Crazy, crazy! But I think my situation was similar there as well - it was a recovery-closed accounts group that said words to the effect "here's how to pay us, but no guarantees."

Not a bankruptcy but just a default on the debt.

I wonder if that's the difference, and why I seem to be going nowhere.

Why would someone "freeze" a credit report?

Basically, if one doesn't travel much, why muck around with the likes of AMEX Platinum, Chase Sapphire (either version), or any of the three CapOne Venture cards? In your case I'd recommend you take a hard look at the cards you have, chuck the lower end cards with annual fees in the trash, determine if any of your better cards with annual fees are worth said fee (closing those which do not), look for a hole in your lineup, and apply for a card or cards which fill the holes.

To me, this indicates that Amex cares more about BK. Elsewhere, my research also found that amount of Amex CO plays a role in how long a particular applicant is restrcited from Amex products. That particular page mentioned amount of CO and the length of time of restrction.

They shot you?? Smiley Surprised But seemingly, yes - notice the template letter I posted earlier in this thread. Could you be a little more specific on "research" and statements made about restrictions? Also, what does "EE" mean?

I wish I lived near a United hub for similar reasons - I use my Quest Visa a lot and the benefits are great (United purchase credit, 2 x free bags, restaurant points, and so on). I also like being able to make payments at local branches. Delta is welcome to wave a middle finger at me in terms of their partners...I have 2 I can wave back.

I am currently on the Amex Black List after a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy from 2011.  Unfortunately, Amex was included in that Chapter 7 to the tune of approximately 22 Thousand.  Since that time, I am over 800 with all 3 bureaus, have a mortgage at 2.875 percent, own my vehicle free and clear, and over 100 Thousand in available credit between 6 different cards.

I took a shot applying for an Amex Platinum card (which is what I used to have) and I got the auto rejection, due to a past closed account.  I called their customer service after reading many of these forum posts that have discussed repaying the loan to be removed from the black list.  Their customer service rep told me that repaying the loan post bankruptcy is not an option for them.  Is that a new policy?  They also said that there is no set time line when you may be eligible to reapply for their cards.  They did give me an address where I can explain my situation in writing to them, which I have never seen as an option on here before.

At the end of the day, despite the hardship that I had to go through and a chapter 7 being my only conceivable option, I accept the fact that the 22K hit that Amex took was on me.  I just wish there was more clarity on how to get a second chance with them to show your worthiness.

Does anyone have any success stories, timelines, or the ability to share any ways on how to get removed from the black list? I look forward to hearing from anyone with some insight.

It has been 11 years since I had 2 accounts closed and charged off. Total balance owned to Amex was just under $10k, never paid off or took the offer for the Optima Card over the years. After seeing a few recent posts about this topic I took a chance an applied for the platinum card since I didn't really want any other card from Amex.
To my surprise they have a new application process (similar to Apple Card) will let you know in advance if approved before accepting offer. You only get a hard pull if you accept offer. I was approved with only TU pulled.

Re: American Express Black List

FYI

Just to add something possibly useful here...

If you are in a situation where you are wondering if you are still BL'd from Amex or not, and you have a partner or friend who is willing to try to add you as an AU to their Amex card, you can try that and if it's declined you'll know you're still BL'd.

This comes with zero risk since it has no negative effect on the cardholder if it's declined, and if approved, the AU can remain or be removed quite easily.

This would essentially keep you from potentially getting dinged with a hard inquiry to your credit.

I know Amex does now do preemptive soft pulls on apps before doing a hard pull, but not sure if that's for all their cards or when that could potentially end.

(Also this wouldn't work on something like their Platinum Card since they charge for AUs on that one.)

So take it with a grain of salt or whatever, I just thought I'd throw that out there FWIW.
