With both of you being middle aged you understand the basics of money; If you have a monthly income of 4k and max out 10k worth of credit cards you are going to be in the hole. He should have understood that credit cards are a tool to improve financial well-being not free money. He's reluctant to accept your help and will not break his bad habits. At a minimum get him to join this forum so he can learn himself.
