DV within 30 days???

Can I DV the CA with LadyScarlet's DV letter if I have not had a notice sent to me? Her DV letter starts off with "This letter is being sent to you in response to a notice sent to me on DATE." My collection acct is from late 2002 and due to fall off 11/2009. I dont remember ever getting any mail on this, but I did move back then.
It had been years since I checked my credit report, until the past Nov. Like many, Im trying to rebuild/re-establish credit and have a few baddies to take care of.
I want to DV this one acct to start with but want to make sure I do it right.

Change that to something like  "This letter is being sent to you because upon a recent review of my personal credit report I noticed your company was reporting a debt you claim I owe."   or something like that.

Ok thanks! I wanted to be certain. I think I've read enough on these forums to get me started and then I come across info and I get so confused.
