Kicking off 2024 with a bang...

I checked EQ this morning and my PR and bad account fell off...  after 7 years my Ch 13 is finally behind me and off my reports.

2024 is the year I get my finances in tip top shape.  I am carrying a good amount of debt right now... close to 50% UTI... but I did start the job of my dreams last month and doubled my income so I'm expecting to pretty much be debt free in the next 6 months.  I'm dropping $1000 a week on my debt until it's paid off and am closing all my starter cards and just rolling with NFCU and Amex most likely.

Scores as of today:

EQ 670

TU 638

EX 639

Nowhere to go from here but up.

Happy New Year everyone!

@Lurker22

Thanks!  I will admit it's a bit disappointing to not see any change in my scores with the PRs falling off... I guess that part about keeping your UTI under 10% is legit... Smiley LOL

What's funny is I've got half my cards at at $0 balance... the other half are anywhere from 40-90% UTI... mostly with 0% APR promos.  Obviously tanking my scores because there's nothing else it could be.

Not a huge concern.  Not in the market for credit right now and am making huge payments to pay things off.  The new job was truly a blessing.  I wasn't even looking for work.  A recruiter found me online.

yeah I hear you and honestly I'm doing the same thing (taking advantage of 0% APR's so have high UTI on 2 cards)...but I have grabbed 3 new cards in the last 45 days, while I'll take a hit from new credit and the inquiries it'll help with my overall UTI and should help in the long run...but it's garden season now at least until the fall for me)

Oh and those are the best type of new jobs - I've always had zero pressure on these because I had a job I really enjoyed so if things didn't work out oh well, but glad they did for you!  Again congrats!

Thanks again.  Yeah I've always enjoyed my work.. (CNC machining) and finding work has never been all that difficult.  Wasn't looking for this job though... it found me.  I went from making aerospace parts for earth flight to making aerospace parts for space flight.

Very cool stuff.  I feel fortunate to be one of those guys that looks forward to going to work.

Will update this thread when I start seeing score increases.

Re: Kicking off 2024 with a bang...

congrats on your clean slate 7 years after Chapter 13.

Even with the higher pay, I would caution you to think about using CC's for points/cash back only. CCs can be a slippery slope............Chapt 13 was a tough lesson for me, and I'm sure for you as well.  Be mindful of it's lessons!!

You're not wrong.  I'm paying all the fancy stuff I bought off... and then consolidating.  Learned the lesson... ain't going down that road again.

Re: Kicking off 2024 with a bang...

Update:

Haven't seen score increases yet... but will soon.  I am paying off $35k in CC debt in the next 2 weeks.  I've closed all my starter cards (Mission Lane, Ally, Credit One, Petal, etc along with my Wells Fargo Reflect and Platinum since the 0% promos are expired) and just rolling with the cards that are now in my sig... AmEx, Verizon Visa (oldest card), Apple, NFCU, CareCredit, Amazon and Best Buy.

Everything else is closed... reducing my overall CL from $82k down to $45k.  Income is 4 times that and I'm ok with it. I'm expecting the 700 club across the board in the next 45 days once all these payoffs post.

The financial outlook for 2024 is looking bright.  Not in any rush to get any more CCs... the cards I kept are pretty solid.  Am going to look into buying a home possibly in 2025 if the market improves.  Also going to look into a second vehicle once my scores are boosted.

The 2017 Ch 13 is in the rearview mirror.

Once you get down to at or near AZEO you might be surprised how much your scores pop; when my Chapter 13 fell off two years ago my revolving accounts happened to be AZEO that month and my scores all shot up to over 800; some of them gained well over 100 points moving from the mid- to high-600s directly into the 800s.

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!
